Scotland: Dunnottar, Stonehaven
Another genealogy-inspired stop was Dunnottar. Descending from Keith Marischals makes this place particularly interesting, but I think it would be worth it even without this connection. It has such a fascinating history, the efforts into maintaining it are impressive, and the surrounding area is gorgeous. Flowers were often found growing out of stone walls like this, at Dunnottar and pretty much everywhere else we visited in Scotland.
